1885 – Cat raising Rats & Kittens

$10.00$40.00

“Cat raising Rats and Kittens” is one of two illustrations from a page in “Animal Stories, Old and New, in Pictures and Prose”, that illustrate cases where cats have raised progeny foreign to their own species. The book is totally written and compiled by Harrison Weir and of course, fully illustrated by him. It was published in 1885 by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington. Many of the drawings are published in Sepia toning, but some of the illustrations, like this one, are in full colour. This curious image is accompanied  by an anecdote about a cat who raised two rats alongside its own two kittens, and relates how the rats continued to have complete trust and faith in their adoptive mother after growing to maturity. Currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options. An unusual but ideal and rare gift for the cat and rat lover!
