1880 Circa – A Strange Home

This stunning work is a small full-page book-plate image entitled “A Strange Home”, from an undated children’s book, “Little Favourites – Picture Album”, published by Miles & Miles, of London. Our expectation is that it was produced somewhere between 1880 and 1895, but as yet, we have not confirmed the date of publication. The work shows a Titmouse and his mate, who have created a nest in a letterbox. Such events were not unknown, but few incidences have been so beautifully illustrated. In this instance, with an inside view of the nest building, showing the builders at work, with an egg and uncollected letters. It also appears to very skilfully show the dim light in which the pair are working. A truly delightful piece of art from the pencil of Weir, which we are very pleased to be able to preserve. Engraved by T.Cobb. Available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
