$7.00$28.00

“Young Cuckoo in Titlark’s nest – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “Here is a young cuckoo in a little titlark’s nest. The cuckoo lays its eggs in another bird’s nest, and it must be the nest of a soft-billed bird, because the cuckoo is a soft-billed bird, and cannot live on the same food as the birds with hard bills. When the great cuckoo is born he takes up all the room, and the true sons and daughters are pushed out.”
