The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “Here is Timothy, the pet Hedgehog, asking for his supper. He is fed with bread and milk from the kitchen window, and when he feels hungry he scratches at the glass. After he has had his supper he will walk off to the garden, to make himself useful; for Timothy helps to keep the garden in good order by destroying all the slugs and snails he can find.”
