“The Student’s Bear – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “This Bear was sent in a hamper from Mount Lebanon, in Syria, to a gentleman at Oxford, who was very fond of Natural History. He soon became a great favourite at the University. He was named ‘Tiglath-Pileser’. A cap and gown were made, arrayed in which (to the great scandal of the dons) he accompanied his master to breakfasts and wine-parties, where he made himself very amusing, and partook of many good things.”
Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
