1878 – The Stock-Doves

“The Stock-Doves – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “Stock-Doves build in the stocks of trees, hence their name. These stock-doves were more common in former times than now, though we still have them in our woods. Doves may well bring to our minds thoughts of Him who made use of them as emblems of purity and humility.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
