1878 – The Sick Monkey

“The Sick Monkey – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “Some people in India kept an old Monkey, called ‘Moonie’. One morning a little sick and wounded baby-monkey was brought to the house. “Moonie’ took a great fancy to the invalid, and nursed and petted her until she got quite well. But ‘Fanny’ (as the little monkey was called) was not allowed to remain with ‘Moonie’. One hot day seventeen large black-faced monkeys came galloping up the avenue, and in spite of poor ‘Moonie’s’ efforts carried off dear little ‘Fanny’ in triumph to her native tree.”
