1878 – Shut out


“Shut out – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, takes the form of a poem and reads as follows:

“That sad beseeching look, those upturned eyes, Plead like a prayer – but no one minds the plea;

There is no shelter from the wrathful skies, Poor fondled pet! who does not pity thee?”
