1878 – A Sagacious Dog

“A Sagacious Dog – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows:  “One evening, during a snow-storm, a number of fowls were missed from the farm, and no-one could tell where they had gone. While the family were sitting at the fire, the house-dog entered the kitchen with a hen in his mouth, that seemed dead, and placed her carefully in front of the fire, and then ran off. He soon returned with another hen and placed her in the same place, and so continued till all the fowls were rescued. The hens had become benumbed with the extreme cold, and would have died but for the dog’s kindness.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
