The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “This is a Robin that built its nest, and hatched its eggs, in an old shoe which had been thrown away. It was curious to see the young birds crowd forward to receive the food provided for them, and after they had eaten, return out of sight into the toe of the shoe.”
