1878 – Rats

“Rats – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, simply states: “A young Rat had fallen into a pail of pig-wash. Six friends of the little rat saw what had happened, and determined to help him. So, entwining their feet together, they formed a chain over the edge of the pail; the foremost rat, supposed to be mother, grasped the drowning little rat in her arms, and both were drawn out on the floor. The end of the story is sad. The infant rat was dead.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
