1878 – The Rat and Spoon

“The Rat and Spoon – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, simply brings with it, a story with pertinent moral: “When a house was pulled down, some years ago, the skeleton of a rat was found in the crevice of a wall, with a silver spoon in front of it, resting across the opening. The rat stole the spoon, and dragged it to its hole, when, getting across the outlet, it prevented the rat from coming out, and so the poor thief died of starvation. Ill-gotten wealth brings its own misery”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
