“Puss and the Linnets – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “Kitty’s eyes were fixed on a bough on which sat a baby-linnet. But every time she tried to spring, one of the little bird’s parents darted down between her and it. And, presently, Kitty’s mistress looked out of the window, and seeing what was going on, came out, and caught Miss Puss, and ran away with her. So the baby-linnet was saved.”
