1878 – The Otter

“The Otter – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “The Otter is a sort of water-ferret, or water-weasel. God gave him a long, flat, and broad tail for a rudder, broad feet for oars, and wonderfully sharp teeth to hold fast his slippery food. When the fish is caught, the Otter carries it to the bank and makes a meal. But the Otter is like naughty Jack, who leaves a saucy plate – he spoils much more fish than he eats.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
