1878 – Magpie and Knife

“Magpie and Knife – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “This magpie was a most amusing bird. He would watch the servant clean the knives, sitting on the knife-box, then suddenly jump down, peck her heels, then on to the knife-box again. After a while, the knives were found to be less and less in number. At last, Master Mag was caught stealing one, and in an old shed in the garden, where he had hidden them, were found six knives, a thimble, a reel of cotton, and other things besides.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
