1878 – Jenny Wren

“Jenny Wren – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “Just before the battle of the Boyne, on the first of July, 1690, King William’s soldiers felt uncommonly tired, and very much inclined to take a nap. While they slept, a little Wren spied some crumbs on a drum-head, and hopped upon it to pick them up. The noise of her little feet on the parchment, woke the drummer-boy, who, like the rest of his comrades, was fast asleep. He started up and looked around, then he saw the enemy approaching, and instantly gave the alarm. Had it not been for Jenny Wren, James might have won the day.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
