“The Horse and the Boar – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: ” A Horse, in a fable, having a quarrel with a Boar, asked a man to help him. He told the man to sit on his back and shoot arrows at the boar. The man did so and the boar was slain. Then the horse wished to be free, and begged the man to take the rein off, but he said, ‘No, my friend; having got you, I will keep you for my own use’.”
