“The Hen and her Ducklings – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The accompanying anecdote tells of “Biddy” a hen and reads as follows: “Some ducks’ eggs were hatched by a hen. When the little ducks first took to swimming ‘Biddy’ was dreadfully frightened, but after a time, when she saw that they got no harm, she stopped her cries, and said to herself, ‘After all, they were wiser than I.’ The next lot of eggs ‘Biddy’ hatched were some of her own laying. The silly hen thought that her second brood ought to do the same thing as the first had done, so she drove her poor little chicks into the pond, where they were all drowned.”:-(

Pic of hen and ducklings now available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
