“Fight between a Dog and a Swan – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows:  “In one of the public gardens in Paris, a fight took place between a swan and a dog. The dog wished to drink, and the swan tried to beat him off. The dog grew angry, and dashed into the water. With two blows from his strong wings the swan rolled him over in the shallow water, encircled him with his long neck, squeezed him, and trampled on him so much that, had not a spectator come to the rescue, the dog would certainly have been killed.”
