1878 – A Faithful Dog

“A Faithful Dog – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows:  “This is a faithful little English Terrier, who, when his master (a French soldier) lay badly wounded on the battle-field, ran to get help for him. With the soldier’s cap in his mouth, the dog wandered for miles till he reached an inn, where the people, seeing the cap, and noticing his restless movements, followed him. He led them straight to his master. The poor man had fainted, but he was saved.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
