1878 – The Egg-Collector

“The Egg-Collector – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows:  “This wonderful Colley dog, who lived at a farmhouse in Scotland, not only used to tend the sheep, but would bring the cows home to be milked, and was also useful in many other ways. One of his favourite occupations was to find out the nests of the hens. He would watch until they had laid their eggs, and then these he would gently take in his mouth and carry indoors. He was never known to break one, although he was the chief egg-collector of the house for several years.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
