1878 – Denis Donovan’s Donkey

“Denis Donovan’s Donkey – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The accompanying anecdote further explains: “Denis Donovan was a merry, witty, sharp Irish boy, whose father was dead; but Denis didn’t mean that his mother should work for him, so he found friends to help him to buy a donkey and a truck, and some vegetables, and soon he was driving quite a brisk trade. Denis treated his donkey kindly, so that it grew fat and strong, and did its work well, and everybody praised Denis Donovan and his donkey.

Kindness is a virtue which will not lose its reward.”

Prints now available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
