1878 – Dead Sheldrake

“Dead Sheldrake – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the ‘Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. Instead of the usual anecdote accompanying the illustration, in this instance a short paragraph has been added as follows: “Two loving Sheldrakes, lived happily together for a long time. But one day a boy, throwing a stone, killed one of them, and its mate pined away, and died of grief shortly after. Let us hope that accident and not intention caused the death of these innocent birds.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
