1878 – The Dead Lamb


“The Dead Lamb – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, takes the form of a poem and reads as follows:  “But yesterday, no happier dam, Ranged o’er those pastures wide, Than she, fond creature! when the lamb, Was sporting by her side. It was a new-born thing; – the rain, Poured down all night – its bed, Was drenched and cold, Morn came again, But the poor lamb was dead.”
