“The Criminal Dog – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, takes the form of a poem and reads as follows:  “What has this dog done? Why, He ate a pretty little lamb, And when he’d done that, he slew her dam; And then attacked the shepherd, too. And so from crime to crime he went, Until he met with punishment.”
