1878 – Charlie and Topsy

“Charlie and Topsy – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows:  “Here is a picture of Charlie and Topsy. ‘Charlie’ is a kitten of Persian breed. He came from Hereford to the north in a tiny hamper, on which a card was fixed bearing these words – ‘Please take care of me’. And he arrived quite safely after his long ride. Charlie seemed to take to his new home at once; he would be friends with those he lived with; and, although the old cat, and Topsy the dog, were very rude to him at first, he soon won them over by his sweet temper and playful ways.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
