1878 – Cat and Starling

“Cat and Starling” is a full page book plate taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878.  The short anecdote accompanying the illustration simply reads: “A little boy had a tame Starling who was very fond of riding on the cat’s back. At night he would sleep with the cat and kitten; and once when the servant came down in the morning she said that she saw the cat with her paw round the bird keeping him warm.”
