1878 – Cat minding Chickens

“Cat minding Chickens – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “This kind cat helped the hen to hatch her chickens. When the hen came off to eat and drink the cat would go on the eggs and keep them warm until the hen came in; then the cat would leave for the hen to go on the nest. Now the chicks are hatched, Puss sits and watches them, and she keeps off the rats, which would otherwise run away with them.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
