1878 – The Bull-Dog

“The Bull-Dog – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, takes the form of a poem (the first we have seen that mentions Harrison Weir by name..), and which reads as follows:

‘And have I indeed such a villainous leer?   Do you do a dog justice now, Harrison Weir?

What a savage expression! how frightful a frown!   No wonder I’m shunned as I walk through the town.’

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
