1878 – A Brave Dog

“A Brave Dog – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The anecdote accompanying this illustration, reads as follows: “This brave Newfoundland Dog was sitting on the pavement, when he saw a little child of three years of age standing right in the way of a heavy wagon which was rolling along the street. Quick as thought, he bounded into the road, snatched up the child, and bore it in safety to the opposite pavement. Every one praised and petted the noble deliverer. He ate at least two pounds of sugar during that day.” Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
