1878 – The Bittern

“The Bittern – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. Instead of an anecdote accompanying the illustration, a simple educational paragraph has been included and reads as follows: “The Bittern is a solitary bird, belonging to the Crane tribe. Standing erect, it measures nearly four feet in height. It has a smooth black head, and a white throat, streaked with red and black. It is found in many parts of Europe, Asia and America. Now it is seldom seen in England, although it is included in the list of British birds.”

Prints currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
