Detail: 1876 – Short Horn Bull Front Page: The Animal World, Jan 1st, 1876
$7.00 – $28.00
This highly detailed rendition of a Short Horn Bull appeared on the Front Cover of “The Animal World”, (A Monthly Advocate of Humanity) dated January 1st, 1876. It may be likened to that produced by Weir in 1847, as a 23 year old, for “The Pictorial Times”. The treatment of the eye in particular being extremely similar, but hard to imagine that this drawing was executed some 28-29 years after the earlier one. Weir was probably at his peak at this time, although it has been said that the quality of his work never waned, continuing to improve with time and experience. Having seen and assessed so much of his work, the writer can only validate that claim. This image is available in A4, A3 and comfortably in an A2 sizing option. If you would prefer a print showing the full page, including the header of “The Animal World”, please contact us and we will happily oblige.
