“Free Fountains” is a small and rare image of Horses, Dogs and Birds all sharing the benefit of the public Free Fountains and Animal Troughs provided throughout the city of London. This image is from an article about them in “The Animal World” (A Monthly Advocate of Humanity), dated 1876. The fountains were generally maintained by “The Metropolitan Drinking Fountain & Cattle Trough Association” whose President was His Grace the Duke of Westminster, and the Treasurer was Samuel Gurney Esq, a good friend of Harrison Weir. They were maintained entirely by voluntary contribution. This image is available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
