1872 – Pussy at Play

This charming image of a young cat playing with a ball, is taken from the circa 1878 edition of “Chatterbox Album of Animals” published by W.W.Gardner. The drawing however is dated 1872, so was done after the first two Crystal Palace shows, which really put Harrison Weir on the map as far as cats were concerned, and we are sure that he would have been under pressure at that time to produce as many drawings of cats as were possible. This drawing is simply accompanied by a poem for children about the kitties gambols with the ball. Note the attention to detail around the eyes.
