1870 – “Fairy” an Alderney Cow


“Fairy, an Alderney Cow – by Harrison Weir” is a full page book plate image, taken from the “Chatterbox Album of Animals”, published by W.W.Gardner, circa 1878. The short anecdote accompanying the illustration, reads as follows: “This is the portrait of ‘Fairy’, an Alderney Cow. Fairy always comes of her own accord to be milked, both morning and evening, and returns when the milking is over, the gate of the field having been left open on purpose. She is docile and obedient, and therefore is much esteemed by those who know her.”
