“A Brood of Partridges” is yet another dynamic full feature page image taken from the June 5th, 1869 edition, of the “Illustrated London News”. It is another seasonal image created by Weir and engraved with skill, to produce a unique image of a family of Partridges. To the left side, the chicks chase a stray butterfly….while the male partridge looks on unimpressed. The hen sits calmly among the grasses but still keeping an eye on the young within range. It was pieces such as this which helped to make Weir a household name as an illustrator, especially when combined with the many children’s book illustrations of birds and animals that would also reach the household, inside “The Children’s Friend” “Chatterbox” and a raft of specialist books on Animal Sagacity and not forgetting “The Animal World” published by the R.S.P.C.A. This detailed piece is currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
