1865 – The Ascot Cup

This image of the “Ascot Cup” for 1865, comes from the Supplement to the June 24th issue of the “Illustrated London News”. The design for this trophy was by Harrison Weir, at the behest of the Silversmith’s “Garrards” of London. For several years, Garrards’ had Weir design various racing trophies, for Ascot, Goodwood and other racing events. Very few images remain of this work, but we are fortunate to have two. In this instance the design was modelled on Joan of Arc, riding a horse and holding the French flag. This image is currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
