1864 – The Shepherd-Dog’s Affection

“The Shepherd-Dog’s Affection” is a full page book plate from “Animal Sagacity”, edited by Mrs S.C.Hall, and published by S.W.Partridge, circa 1866.  This illustration is of an old dog named “Zeb” and there are a number of anecdotes accompanying it, of which one tells of Zeb’s dedication to a former master who had died. The anecdotes include a story of a shepherd who in pursuing a sheep that had run down a steep bank, fell into the water, and was drowned. In that instance, the dog, who was with him all the time, returned home the next morning and led the poor shepherd’s widow to the spot, holding her by the apron. The body was found, and the dog followed it to the grave. He died of grief a few days afterwards.

Currently available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
