1863 – The Patch of Sunlight

“A Patch of Sunlight” is one of those immediately disarming and charming images that just feel right! Drawn by Harrison Weir for the 1863 publication of “Our Dumb Companions” by Thomas Jackson M.A., and published by S.W.Partridge & Co, this piece shows how comfortable the artist is with his subject matter and gives the impression it is drawn both from experience and from life, which it undoubtedly is. It also clearly demonstrates his talent and mastery at drawing on wood for wood-block engraving, something he was very comfortable doing. In an autobiographical account he claims to have completed some hundreds of thousands of such drawings on wood. “A Patch of Sunlight” is currently available in both A4 and A3 sizing options.
