1856 – HRH Prince Albert’s Harriers

$7.00$28.00

This full page feature image is entitled “HRH Prince Albert’s Harriers” and is taken from the April 19th 1856 edition of “The Illustrated London News”. The accompanying article goes into considerable detail describing the hunt, and tells about Prince Albert’s Harrier dogs, which were under the management of Colonel Hood. At the end of a lengthy description of the days event, we are advised that “the hounds and horses of our illustration, from the pen of Mr Harrison Weir, were, by the kindness of Colonel Hood, studied at leisure at the kennels.” Despite this, being asked to produce a full page feature drawing for the Illustrated London News, which included a portrait of HRH Prince Albert on horseback, was a veritable coup for Harrison Weir, who very ably performed the task given to him, when he brought forth this amazingly well conceived image. A fine insight into a piece of English history. Available in A4, A3 and A2 sizing options.
